In the 1970s and 1980s, Ethiopia experienced civil conflictsand communist purges, which hindered its economy.





But that can be said to most if not all ethnic groups in Ethiopia, for example, the Oromo expansion in the 16th and 17th century has led to incorporation of many non ethnic oromo tribes including portions of the semitic speaking tribes.
